Egyptian Tax Authority Discusses New Tax Facilitation Measures

Rasha Abdel Aal, the Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA), recently held a significant meeting at the authority’s training center, engaging with sector heads, regional directors, tax center managers, and advisors. This gathering followed a session led by the Minister of Finance focused on the first phase of tax facilitation measures and how to tackle challenges faced by the organization on the ground.

During the meeting, which included the Deputy Head of the Authority, El-Sayed Mahmoud Saqr, Abdel Aal underscored the Minister of Finance’s proactive approach in overseeing these tax facilitation measures. She expressed confidence in the commitment of ETA staff to implement these policies effectively. Abdel Aal revisited the Minister of Finance’s directives to strengthen the relationship between taxpayers and the authority.

She acknowledged the arrival of the first phase of tax facilitation measures and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to transform the organizational culture. “A shift towards transparency and flexibility necessitates the active participation of all employees,” she stated. These facilitation measures, as highlighted by Abdel Aal, are designed to benefit not only the taxpayers but also the authority itself, alleviating administrative burdens, saving time, and enabling more efficient dispute resolution. She stressed that the effective execution of these measures relies on developing clear and adaptable action plans coupled with robust monitoring systems to ensure the set goals are achieved.

Upcoming announcements will detail these mechanisms aimed at enhancing taxpayers’ experiences and increasing transparency in tax transactions. Significantly, Abdel Aal introduced the formation of a dedicated high-level committee assigned to swiftly address taxpayer concerns and ensure efficient resolutions. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to protect taxpayer rights and foster trust between the tax authority and the public, all while enhancing tax services and minimizing administrative hurdles.

Training initiatives have also been prioritized, with Abdel Aal highlighting the need for workshops and educational programs aimed at equipping employees with knowledge about the new facilitation measures and relevant legislative changes. Furthermore, the authority is modernizing its digital infrastructure and implementing new electronic programs that will simplify the execution of these measures. “Technology is crucial in modernizing tax administration,” she remarked, focusing on improving data systems to facilitate accurate and transparent resolution of tax issues.

Reiterating the ETA’s commitment to engaging with all taxpayer segments, Abdel Aal conveyed her dedication to collaboration, stating, “You are our success partners, and we are devoted to resolving issues alongside you. Our goal is to implement tax facilitation measures that safeguard your rights while simplifying procedures and enhancing the services we provide.”

In conclusion, she emphasized the necessity of ongoing follow-up meetings to assess progress and support the successful implementation of the new tax system.
