ETA Advocates for Automated Audits and Expedited Refunds Rasha Abdel Aal, the Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA), has emphasized the vital role of hands-on assessments and continuous support from the Minister of Finance in overcoming the operational hurdles facing both tax officials and taxpayers. During her recent inspection at the 10th of Ramadan Tax Offices, she highlighted how these field visits are instrumental in improving fiscal office efficiency and facilitating better interactions between the authority and the public.

Abdel Aal has been a strong proponent of automated audits, which she believes are essential for safeguarding taxpayers’ rights and preventing arbitrary tax assessments. By leveraging automation, the ETA aims to deliver accurate financial evaluations and promote transparency, thereby reducing the likelihood of disputes that could harm taxpayers or obstruct the authority’s transition to a fully digital system.

Implementing Taxpayer-Friendly Improvements, in her address, Abdel Aal detailed the ETA’s commitment to enhancing service delivery to make tax processes more taxpayer-friendly while concurrently broadening the tax base. A noteworthy improvement she mentioned relates to the Value Added Tax (VAT) refund process. Recent advancements have dramatically reduced the time needed for processing refunds, resulting in a fivefold increase in the volume of refunds issued and a fourfold rise in both the total value and number of beneficiaries receiving these refunds.

Notably, the ETA has managed to complete refunds more swiftly than legally stipulated timelines. These enhancements not only provide crucial support to taxpayer cash flow but also contribute to stronger economic growth and sustainable development. Abdel Aal concluded her remarks by expressing gratitude for the commitment of ETA staff, whose dedication is pivotal in achieving the authority’s comprehensive objectives.

The Egyptian Tax Authority’s ongoing reforms and focus on automation and efficient service delivery reflect a dedication to bolstering taxpayer rights and enhancing operational efficiency. By streamlining processes and improving refund systems, the ETA is taking significant strides toward a more equitable and transparent tax framework.
