Shopping in Southern California just got more expensive. As of April 1, several cities across Los Angeles County and beyond have implemented higher sales tax rates.
Most of these increases stem from Measure A, the Los Angeles County Homelessness Services and Affordable Housing Ordinance, approved by voters in November 2024. The measure funds housing and social programs through an incremental sales tax increase.
Notable Sales Tax Hikes:
- Alhambra, Arcadia, Burbank, Carson, Pasadena, Long Beach, and Culver City: 10.5% (previously 10.25%)
- Azusa, Glendora, Lynwood, Palmdale, and Lancaster: 10.75% – 11.25%
- Buena Park, Desert Hot Springs, Escondido, and Moreno Valley: 8.75% (previously 7.75%)
These changes impact businesses and consumers alike, affecting retail prices and purchase decisions. Affected businesses must update their systems to comply with the new tax rates.
