Qatar’s General Tax Authority (GTA) has extended its flagship tax penalty exemption initiative until December 31, 2025, giving businesses and individuals more time to regularize their tax status without incurring financial penalties.
The scheme, which offers a 100% waiver on penalties for late registration, filing, or payments, has already delivered significant results. More than 7,000 taxpayers have benefitted, with financial penalties worth over QAR 1.6 billion written off. In addition, the program prompted the filing of 56,000 tax returns, including overdue submissions covering periods from 2014 to 2024, the authority said.
The GTA described the initiative as a cornerstone of its strategy to improve compliance and strengthen trust between the tax authority and businesses. It also highlighted that beneficiaries come from a wide range of sectors, underlining the program’s role in supporting the broader economy.
Applications for the initiative can be submitted online via the Dhareeba platform, with support and guidance available to help taxpayers navigate the process.
“The extension reflects our commitment to transparency and partnership, and to making it easier for taxpayers to meet their obligations,” the GTA said in a statement.
The tax authority stressed that the initiative has been instrumental in raising voluntary compliance levels, easing the burden on companies while reinforcing the efficiency of Qatar’s tax system.
