Singaporean taxpayers are set to benefit from a streamlined tax filing process in 2025, as the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) expands the No-Filing Service (NFS) to cover over 1.9 million individuals. Additionally, nearly 500,000 taxpayers will gain early access to their finalized tax assessments under the Direct Notice of Assessment (D-NOA) initiative, which starts mid-March 2025.
For the first time, self-employed individuals—including those in commission-based roles and private hire operators—will be eligible for the NFS, provided their income data is submitted by relevant intermediaries. Taxpayers under this scheme will receive notifications by March 2025, and they are encouraged to verify pre-filled tax details, especially with the new eligibility changes in dependent-related tax reliefs.
Singapore’s government will provide an automatic 60 percent tax rebate, capped at $200 per resident taxpayer to support taxpayers
Key Benefits of the D-NOA and NFS
- Faster Tax Assessments: Nearly 500,000 taxpayers will receive their tax bills earlier than usual, allowing for better financial planning.
- Automatic Calculations: IRAS will compute tax bills based on income data from employers and prior-year claims.
- Amendments Made Easy: Taxpayers can review and amend their assessments via the myTax Portal within 30 days if necessary.
Taxpayers should check their D-NOA status through the myTax Portal’s notification center.
Changes to Dependent-Related Tax Reliefs
Following Singapore’s Budget 2024 announcements, the income threshold for claiming dependent-related tax reliefs will double from $4,000 to $8,000 for YA 2025. Affected reliefs include:
- Spouse Relief
- Parent Relief
- Qualifying Child Relief
- Working Mother’s Child Relief (WMCR)
- CPF Cash Top-up Relief
Additionally, the WMCR calculation will shift from a percentage of a working mother’s earned income to a fixed dollar amount for children born or adopted after January 1, 2024.
Standardized Filing Deadline for All Taxpayers
Starting YA 2025, April 18 will be the universal filing deadline for both paper and electronic tax submissions. Currently, over 98 percent of taxpayers e-file their returns, and IRAS encourages others to switch to online filing via the myTax Portal for added efficiency.
Filing early is strongly recommended to avoid last-minute stress and potential penalties.
Seamless Tax Payment Options
To simplify payments, taxpayers are encouraged to use secure digital payment methods such as:
- GIRO – Interest-free 12-month installment plans
- PayNow QR – Instant tax payment processing
Beware of Phishing Scams
IRAS warns against rising tax-related phishing scams and fraudulent emails. Taxpayers should:
- Only access official IRAS websites for tax-related matters.
- Never share personal or financial details via unsolicited messages.
