Bridgetown – The Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) has officially launched the 2024 tax filing season, making Personal Income Tax (PIT) returns available online via the Tax Administration Management Information System (TAMIS). The deadline to file PIT returns is set for Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
Taxpayers who are self-employed, employees earning over $25,000, or pensioners with annual income exceeding $45,000 are required to file their returns. Carolyn Williams-Gayle, Senior Manager of Headquarters Services at the BRA, has urged taxpayers to review their information carefully before submission to avoid delays.
Common Filing Errors and How to Avoid Them
- What’s at Stake? Incorrect banking details and mistakenly selecting “No” for “Resident for Tax Purposes” are two of the most common errors that delay refunds. These mistakes can cause significant processing delays and require additional steps for correction.
- Pro Tip: Double-check your banking information and verify your residency status to ensure the return is processed smoothly. If in doubt, contact your financial institution to confirm your account details.
Third-Party Information Matters
It’s crucial that taxpayers confirm the accuracy of third-party details, including income and deductions, as these can directly impact their tax returns. Errors or omissions in this information could delay processing.
- Action Steps: Before submitting your PIT return, review the data uploaded on your behalf. If anything seems off, reach out to the responsible entity to have it corrected.
Tax Clinics Starting April 1, 2025
Starting April 1, the Barbados Revenue Authority will host Tax Clinics to assist taxpayers with their filings. This initiative provides a valuable opportunity for those who may need help navigating the online filing system.
